I was elected to the City Council in an April 2008 special election in District 6 (Palo Verde) and re-elected to office in 2009 to a full term. Redistricting placed me in the newly-configured District 5, and on August 27, 2013, I was elected to the District 5 seat. I was sworn in on January 1, 2014 to a four-year term and elected Vice Mayor by the City Council on January 14, 2014.I served as Vice Mayor in 2011. I have been part of the united Council effort that helped pull Surprise back to fiscal health in the last two years, generating a budget surplus and placing the City’s fiscal house in order.My goals for the city include a 100-year water plan, working with transportation partners to expand east-west connections, developing a local circulator, expanding youth involvement in the community, and attracting new businesses to Surprise. I currently serve on the Mayor’s Business Roundtable Committee, the Form Based Code Sub-committee, and chair the Water Sub-Committee. I also volunteer my time with the St. Mary’s Food Bank at the Surprise location. I am active with the City’s Tourism Commission and in promoting the City to local, regional and national organizations.I am active in the Chamber of Commerce and the AZ TechCelerator to promote business growth.I grew up in Idaho and received a business degree from Seattle University. I am a Vietnam War Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding service 1969-1970.
