Profile bio

About Stephen Padua, Aicp

I spend a lot of time with my family, doing anything outdoors, and my work so here's my attempt at summarizing my professional experience in six points. 1. My recent shift to long-range planning has expanded my toolbox and focus to exploring the relationships between transportation, housing and land use and how to enhance all systems with a more collaborative approach and breaking away from the historically siloed systems that only benefit the affluent. 2. I've always been passionate about transportation planning, exploring safe systems from the perspective of the most vulnerable users, and ensuring accessible services for community members with the highest needs.4. I've managed multiple levels of planning projects for large and small cities which include corridor design, subarea and city-wide plans, small project programs, education programs and volunteer programs and working with different types of advisory boards and commissions. 3. I started my professional career doing GIS analysis but realized there's more fun in planning. 5. In a recent discussion with high school students, they asked what I do and I told them "Do you see a road project or building development in your community and wonder 'who's the genius that decided to put that there', I'm that genius." 6. I always enjoy meeting new people and sharing the knowledge I've gained over my life, so reach out if you're looking for guidance, want to talk shop or looking for someone to try that new coffee shop. My family is from Hawaii and I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, so I'm naturally fascinated by the ocean and the mountains. I like to explore different mountain peaks through hiking and trail running and I explore different waterways on my outrigger canoe.
