About Jeff Snider

Leadership, writing, baseball, and technology. Those are my career-related passions.I have a passion for using technology to improve the lives of real everyday people, thereby making the world a slightly better place.I believe in people. I am a passionate advocate for the people who work for and with me. I believe the best way to manage is to hire great people and let them be great.I hired on with DigiCert as their second employee in 2004, and I spent nearly a decade helping turn that wonderful company into a huge success. In 2014, I made the choice to spend more time with my young family and pursue some other passions, and I don't regret it for a second. I've spent the past 8.5 years doing what I love with the people I love, and I've created memories with my wife and three children that I'll always cherish. Now, I'm starting to get the itch to do something exciting again. I don't know what that is. I don't even know what industry. I love leading groups of skilled people and helping their reach their potential. I love writing and talking about baseball. I love technology. I don't know what I want to do next, but I think I'll know it when I see it.

Host, Locked On Dodgers Podcast

Current

In June 2016, I started the Scully Avenue Podcast with Vince Samperio. We did a weekly podcast about the Dodgers for nearly three years, at which point we joined the Locked On Podcast Network, changed to a daily format, and renamed the show “Locked On Dodgers.”Over 1,400 episodes between the two shows combined.Interviewed many minor and major leaguers, including Cody Bellinger, Will Smith (Dodgers), Matt Beaty, Charlie Culberson, Josiah Gray, Kody Hoese, Ryan Pepiot, and others. Also interviewed Joe Davis (Dodgers play-by-play broadcaster and now Fox Sports’ lead baseball broadcaster) and baseball writers Keith Law, Rob Neyer, Mark Simon, and others.I'm a baseball expert with emphasis on the Dodgers, advanced statistics, baseball history, and obscure trivia, and I love having an outlet to share those areas of expertise.

Mar 2019 - Present

Manager Of Software Development

Jun 2023 - Apr 2024

Contributing Writer

In seven months with Dodgers Nation, I wrote over 1,000 articles about current events related to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Topics ranged from basic news reports to game stories to opinion pieces. It was a fun and fulfilling way to use my Dodgers and baseball expertise.

Aug 2022 - Mar 2023

Owner, Editor, Writer

I joined Baseball Essential as a writer in 2015, quickly earned partial ownership, and eventually bought out the founders.• Managed a staff of 40-60 writers, almost entirely remotely. Personally edited nearly every article published on the site.• Spent time in the press box, on the field, and in the locker rooms of several MLB and MiLB teams as a credentialed media member.• Created a comprehensive style guide and a series of tutorials to aid young writers in honing their craft. Several writers I have mentored have gone on to write for outlets such as FanSided, the Athletic, and others.• Wrote over 100 feature articles.•• One research project of mine restored Garry Templeton’s 1979 feat as the first player ever to have 100+ hits from each side of the plate in a season. ••• Both Retrosheet and Baseball-Reference had him falling short from the right side, but my research tracked down all 100 right-handed hits and led to both sites updating their data. Article detailing research can be found at https://bit.ly/bbeTempy. ••• I presented this research at the 2020 Society for American Baseball Research Virtual Convention, which you can watch at https://bit.ly/jeffSABRpres (timestamp 1:42:29).• Spoke with and wrote about many young ballplayers, including 2020 American League Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis when he was a sophomore in college in 2015 (https://bit.ly/bbeKLewis) and 2022 National League All-Star pitcher David Bednar when he was in the low minor leagues in early 2019 (https://bit.ly/bbeBednar). See my work at http://www.baseballessential.com/news/author/jeffs/.I still own this site, but the Covid pandemic majorly affected the business model, so it's more of a hobby at this point.

Feb 2015 - Jan 2023

Vice President Of Community And Social Media

Lehi, Ut

Had ownership of DigiCert's blog, social media accounts, and technical white papers.

Mar 2014 - Jul 2014

Vice President Of Development

Lehi, Ut

• As DigiCert’s second employee, I had my hands in most aspects of the business, including programming, customer service, marketing, business development, human resources, and executive management.• As the leader of the development team (and originally the sole developer), I had two key focuses: o Create truly useful and easy-to-find tools and content for our customers. o Create tools that automate our internal teams’ jobs to the extent possible, so theycan spend their time on tasks that need their attention.• Conceived, architected, and built our Managed PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) system, which allows enterprise customers to seamlessly issue and manage certificates on-demand and in high volume.• Oversaw the implementation of a robust API that allows customers to integrate certificate management into their existing processes.• Co-created and implemented our simple customer service strategy: treat every customer like a beloved family member. This approach made DigiCert the top-rated Certificate Authority according to SSL Shopper, a third-party review website.• Built a culture of valuing employees and their families as our most important assets.• I created a concept that has been duplicated by many companies along the Silicon Slopes of Utah: what we called "DigiTrips." Each year, every employee received a bonus week of PTO and a special stipend, with the caveat that the time and money had to be spent on a cool vacation. It was immensely satisfying to see young, entry-level employees (and less young, more experienced folks, too!) visiting Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and countless other places they normally wouldn't have been able to go.• Spent much of my free time reading every book and website I could find on management, customer service, software usability, and anything else that would increase my value to the company.
