Ikigai, raison d'etre, our purpose in life. We all wish to find ours, whether we know the concept or not, and some of us find it early enough in our lives, whereas others (like me) work for a major part of their lives in some other field, not suspect anything amiss, and virtually stumble upon it one day. I found mine ever since I became a caregiver to someone with a mental disorder. I have been wanting to take up psychological counselling full-time, for a long time but always ended up developing cold feet. I studied up, got certification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness in order to help my wife and to put it to good use, I started counselling other sufferers of depression, anxiety spectrum disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder / Body Focused Repetitive Behaviour and other disorders like Trichotillomania and Excoriation. I have been doing this since 2012 purely out of interest, but in January 2018 stars aligned in a favourable way, and I finally decided to take the plunge and become a full-fledged psychological counsellor, to be able to offer focussed help to those in need.My venture, Unshackle, is born out of the premise that everyone deserves to get help, whether they can afford it or not. I offer a sliding scale for people who cannot afford the other-wise expensive mental health counselling. I also believe geography should never become a constraint and offer tele-counselling anywhere in the world. I currently have clients from the US, Canada, UK, France, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Armenia and a few from other cities in India. Lastly, I also believe in being available almost all the time, at least for a quick tip. I am therefore, available on whatsapp for at least 18 hours a day. So, talk to me!
