Scholar Development Officer
Member Of Board Of Directors
Responsible for the effective governance of Tricky Hat, including contributing to decisions around strategic management, artistic outputs and employment terms.Tricky Hat is a company that makes Theatre with and about people who live on the margins of our society. We work alongside high caliber artists, with such 'hard to reach' groups to find a creative and credible voice through participation in high quality, collaborative, cross-arts events. We work in collaborations with agencies, artists and areas. We have particular expertise in working with older people, people with mental health concerns and forensic psychiatry patients. We create Theatre and Digital Installations, making the invisible visible. We aim to challenge our audience and participants' preconceived ideas.

I used my initial months in post to not only identify student groups requiring support, but also how that support would be delivered. I restructured the clubs constitution to better suit WA students, launched micro grant funding, formed and grew WA related societies, ran WA campaigns including Care Experienced Week 2020 and 2021 and Estranged Student Solidarity Week 2020 and 2021, launched a multi organisational FE to HE mentor programme, worked with Stand Alone to develop an SU level pledge for estranged students (now entitled the Manifesto for Change which Strath Union is the first to sign), and am currently in the process of developing the SU's first ever WA strategy, which will sit in confluence with the University WA department's new WA strategy for the next 5 years. I also created a WA resource section on our website, wrote copy for WA related events and campaigns, designed and ran social media campaigns, conducted a thorough evaluation of the Access and Participation Coordinator role, and designed and produced the final evaluation report.

Sessions take place both on campus and within nominated schools. The role involves both planning and delivering individual school sessions, seminars and workshops on campus. Tutors are also required to grade student's work through a series of formative and summative assessments. These include seminar participation, reflective learning logs and a final written assignment.Top Up: This programme aims to bridge the gap between high school and FE/HE. Students are taught key academic skills to improve both their application to, and work during, Higher and Further Education. Over the course of 6 months students are introduced to the University environment; learning study expectations, critical thinking, critical reading, how to reference and how to effectively engage in seminar discussions. Through a combination of formative and summative assessments including seminar discussions, reflective learning logs and written work, students are then graded and, should students achieve 3Bs or higher, final marks submitted to admission officers at their chosen University. Sitting at SCQF level 7, the course allows students to gain experience in producing work and being assessed at first year University level. The widening participation programme at the University of Glasgow is designed to increase University attendance amongst school pupils in attendance of high schools with historically low rates of University goers.
