Problem: Need at the university for a device capable of measuring and graphing an antenna’s two-dimensional radiation pattern automatically. The current by-hand alternative too tedious for an educational demonstration or personal use.Project: Construct an Antenna Testing Device that uses a motor-controlled platform, transmit antenna, software-defined radios, and necessary graphing software to collate and graph any antenna’s radiation pattern quickly and precisely. • Worked as lead radio frequency engineer, creating RF specifications to meet the overall needs of the project and selecting parts, such as a transmit antenna, that met those constraints.• Functioned as project manager; coordinated responsibilities within the team, advised other members when needed, and delivered all team reports edited and on time.• Co-wrote a comprehensive 79-page engineering report detailing the design process, system tests, and results. • Designed and performed tests on final system design for optimal performance.Result: Project passed all subsystem tests created by the team and design advisor. Antenna and software-defined radio integration were successful with all other tests held off due to Covid-19. Integration to be finished by university.

Problem: Waikato products, automated milking machines, would malfunction at the circuit level due to strenuous use in a hot farmhouse. They would then ship the boards out of the country for repair or often replace them altogether. This was considered by management to be costly and unnecessary if boards could be troubleshot and repaired locally.Project: Construct a method of testing circuit board function and troubleshoot points of failure in-house.• Analyzed control board schematic to pinpoint possible points of failure and drive future methodology of repair.• Constructed a test area simulating machine operation to observe physical points of failure in milking process.• Documented the types of board failure possible and the associated ICs and components in need of replacement.• Conducted repair of milking machine circuit boards using surface mount and through hole soldering techniques. • Other responsibilities: Wrote technical documentation for code that lacked it to facilitate clear future interpretation • Used puTTy and Raspbian to remotely update and rewrite software of milking machines in the field.Result: Repaired 100+ product circuit boards, saving the company large amounts of money in product replacement costs.
