If you're a journalist of color (particularly Black, Latinx, and/or Indigenous) who's interested in getting into investigative journalism, data journalism, or data visualization, email me if you'd like to have an informal chat about the industry, career paths, data, visuals, code help, and feedback.---I'm Deputy Managing Editor for the Impact department at CalMatters/The Markup, heading the data/interactives and product teams. I'm currently in a yearlong investigative editing training program with ProPublica.In the past, I've worked in newsrooms editing and coding interactive graphics, scraping and manipulating data, building internal tools, and reporting stories. For three years, I taught students how to code and think about data and design at UC Berkeley's School of Journalism.
