About Spencer Petersen
In 2012 I had the opportunity to climb and summit Mt. Rainier, pictured in my background photo. It was, and is to this day, one of the most challenging things that I've ever done. While on this climb I found a passion for supporting others as a close friend and I struggled and encouraged one another to get to the top. That is why Mount Rainier is my background picture, as reminder of two important things: 1. I can do hard things, it takes dedication and grit, but I can overcome challenges and persevere. 2. I am reminded of my why, my truth as to why I'm pursuing a career in HR, knowing my why helps keep my focus on what matters to me.Through my educational experience at BYU studying Psychology and Business, I found a place for my passion of supporting others in the intersection of the well-being of the individual and the profitability of the business. Through my graduate experience at Utah State University, working toward a Master of Human Resources, I've broadened and deepened my skillset and knowledge of HR. My professional goal is to be able to thrive in the HR space representing both the company and the employee, simultaneously. Striving to have a balanced approach to removing barriers for employees to be engaged and to understanding and representing the business to ensure that productivity, ingenuity, and profitability are positive. To me, it seems that HR's place is helping businesses find attract the best talent, keep their people, have an engaged workforce, and create a productive and innovative environment alongside the workforce.My understanding has expanded with new experiences to the sentiment that business is complex in the many facets it has, but simple in how it succeeds, the people.
