Steve came to the came to the Denver District Attorney’s Office in 1983, after seven and one-half years in the First JD DA's Office. Steve serves as the Director of the Special Projects Unit. This includes administration of the Denver Victim Assistance Law and Enforcement Board. The creation and supervision of cutting edge Criminal Justice Programs is an integral part of Steve’s work. These programs include the Cold Case DNA Project, Witness Protection Program, Victim Services Network, Juvenile Diversion, Domestic Violence policy, Community Advocacy Program, Communities Against Senior Exploitation (CASE), and Courtrooms to Classrooms. The Victim Services Network is designated by the U.S. Department of Justice as a national model of collaboration. Steve is the past Chair of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Victims of Crime. The Governor named him as a founding member of the Colorado Criminal Justice Commission. Steve served as one of the crisis team leaders in the response to the Columbine High School tragedy. Steve had the honor of supervising the Colorado Oklahoma Resource Council (CORC) After 9/11 Steve served in an advisory capacity to the United States Department of Justice. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Aurora 720 Recovery Committee. Most recently he has served as an advisor in support of the interdisciplinary efforts to serve the victims in Sandy Hook/Newtown; and in Boston in the aftermath of the Marathon Bombing. Over the course of his thirty-seven year career he has been a catalyst for the development of interagency protocols that have been replicated nationwide on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, and Victimization of the Elderly and Disabled. Steve served as adjunct faculty to the CU Graduate School of Public Affairs for six years.Steve has been the recipient of numerous honors. In April 2006 he was present the National Crime Victim Services Award by the Attorney General of the United States.
