Curiosity Killed the Career. That’s the title of my book, should I ever actually write it. Pre-orders should be available once my kids are out of the house. When thinking about my 25+ years of work experience, curiosity has been the main driver and will continue to be. I’m a lifelong learner who has never had a direct answer when asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. I have to pick one thing? No, thank you. The word that best sums up my journey is “multipotentialite”. Thank you, Emilie Wapnick, for your great TEDx Talk in which you define this term. Through my diverse career, I have acquired an eclectic set of skills and experiences that are relevant and valuable to a variety of positions. My three main super powers are:1. Idea Synthesis – I can combine different fields and ideas to create something new at their intersection2. Rapid Learner – I devour everything new to me. I’ve started over several times so I only see new situations as great opportunities to learn3. Adaptability – I bring what I learn from each experience to the next and have successfully collaborated with everyone from C-suite conservative bankers to struggling artistsI’ve earned these super powers through a range of situations - from mind-blowing to stressful - and I wouldn’t change a thing. Highlights include:• Living and working in Atlanta, Los Angeles, NYC, Hong Kong, London, Denver and Washington, DC. Traveling to 16 countries and counting.• Filming actors during their auditions for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.• Starting the talent department at National Geographic Channel and driving the adoption of new cross-divisional processes and best practices.• Preparing a major bank from technical doom leading up to Y2K. • Contributing to various content including scripted & non-scripted television, comedy writing, expert panel discussions and in-person and virtual engagements.• Leading the strategy to connect over 1,000 National Geographic Explorers to opportunities to amplify their voices through editorial coverage, speaking engagements and more.• Driving Tommy Smothers from the airport in my car that had duct tape holding up the passenger window.Moving forward, I plan to continue leveraging my experiences to strategically drive meaningful connections between good people, good things, and good ideas. I get goosebumps when I’m able to drive those connections, be a tangible part of the entire process and measure the impacts coming from them. If I can streamline the processes and build or manage the systems that get us there too – incredible.
