I have been selected to represent the Saltire Foundation as a Brand Ambassador. The sole purpose of my duties is to promote and increase awareness of The Saltire Foundation with the hope of increasing applications to the scholarship programme in the coming year.

Balancing a part time job with University allowed me to advance my time management skills; it was crucial to maintain good organisation to stay ontop of my University work. Working in a fast paced environment allowed me to develop effective teamwork skills.

In the Summer of 2015 I was fortunate enough to secure an internship, through the Saltire Foundation, with leading pharmeceutical company- GlaxoSmithKline.During my time at GSK I created an innovative proposal to reform the structure of STEM activity. Whilst retaining strong focus on community engagement, I have been able to create a sustainable plan which seeks to link the current workforce with that of tomorrow. To accomplish this, it has been crucial to liaise professionally with external bodies (for example STEMNET- the national organisation for STEM, and other local businesses such as SIEMENS) as well as internal staff.My placement at GSK has been diverse and I have benefited from having a seat in the Commercial offices, allowing me to gain a broad understanding of the functioning of a global pharmaceutical business. Whilst at GSK I have greatly improved my Microsoft Office Skills by producing numerous presentations and keeping a record of meeting minutes and action logs. My time at GSK has been a vector for the development of communication skills and the nature of the job has taught me a great deal about flexibility and the importance of working across boundaries. My work with Flair has taken me to bars at busy events such as the Glasgow Summer Sessions as well as various sports events. Whilst working here I received bar training as well as electronic till training. My duties here involved working on a busy bar whilst maintaining a high standard of customer service.

My responsibilities were to be accountable for the wellbeing of 6-9 blind or visually impaired adults a week as well as working as a lifeguard. My duties included overseeing the daily activites of tubing, swimming and fishing for up to 88 people a day. It was my responsibility to supervise staff, volunteers and guests on the waterfront, making sure that safety guidelines were complied to. I also served as a waitress, taking orders and serving drinks and meals as well as being a van driver and a boat driver. Working with the blind helped me to greatly develop my communication skills. I succeeded in overcoming difficulties such as accidents and emergencies in the Lake water and on camp grounds to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients. A noteable personal achievement was teaching blind and deaf individuals to swim.Skills developed include;• Van Driving• Boat Driving (gained a North Carolina Boat Driving Licence)• American Red Cross CPR and First Aid including AED certified• Lifeguarding• Watersports facilitation• Swimming Teaching• Waitressing/Meal Service• Personal Care• Golf Buggy driver• Managing a team of staff on the waterfront

Glasgow

This role involved befriending elderly patients as well as assisting nurses with their duties. My primary role was to assist at meal times to take orders from the patients and serve meals, ensuring that strict dietary requirements were catered to.
