Ph.D. scientist with infectious diseases expertise, including HIV and influenza. I was a Staff Scientist in the NIAID intramural research program when I made a gradual transition to bioinformatics and computational biology. Working at the intersection of life and computer sciences, I designed and developed data management, data analytics, and research management systems as the founding Director of the NIAID Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Branch (BCBB) and later as the CIO of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).I am the Principal Investigator for two Data Coordination Centers that support large multi-Center research programs of the NIAID. These are the Statistical, Data Management, and Coordination Center (SDMCC) for the Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers (CIVICs) and the influenza Data Processing and Communication Center (iDPCC) for the Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Response (CEIRR). Specialties: Bioinformatics, computational biology, High Performance Computing, infectious diseases research, program management, software development, AWS Architecture, AWS DevOps, solution architecture, proposal writing, scientific data management, FAIR, data standards, data harmonization, data analytics, data coordination centers.
