You want the write stuff, right?I'm a goal-oriented 37 year old South African with an interest in the world of media and the confidence to work with both text and graphics. I have a keen eye for photography and specialize in transforming drafts into visually-pleasing, punchy, print-ready documents.Language is a passion of mine and I'm bilingual with excellent proficiency in both English and Afrikaans. I'm able to read and understand Dutch and I've been learning French to expand my skill set. (Après cinq ans, je sais que je ne sais rien !) Five years in retail as a bookseller taught me the value of excellent customer service. As a teacher I was able to easily connect to my students and found great joy in expanding their young minds. I used my language and graphic design skills at the same high school, where I was responsible for the management of outgoing communication. This included writing copy for publications and the web, taking photos at school events, the management of their corporate identity and basic web design and maintenance. As the editor of the school's yearly magazine, I was in charge of the concept and execution of a 180 page annual report. I was truly an all-rounder.From April 2022 to April 2024 I formed part of the brand team at LifeQ, Inc, a health technology company focused on the way ongoing healthy behavio(u)rs lead to better aging. As copywriter and editor I helped with content creation and editing of both short- and long-form texts, and was especially good at repurposing complex, scientific jargon for different audiences (B2B, but also B2C). Unfortunately, LifeQ had to lay off numerous employees, but the experience of working for a dynamic startup was invaluable and helped me to adopt healthier habits as well.My hobbies include reading, writing, photography, graphic design, film, theatre and gaming. I'm married and a dad to three cats.
