I was born and raised in Texas, and I am a proud alumna of the visual arts department from The High School of Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. I received both my BA and MFA from Hollins University, a historical women's college. During my graduate assistantship, I designed & taught a course on confessional poetry, where I discovered my passion for adult education and arts advocacy. As the daughter of a Chilean immigrant, I was thrilled to lead the programming for Roanoke non-profit Blue Ridge Literacy. With adults from 50+ countries, our programs served preliterate learners to advanced language exchange groups, in addition to citizenship preparation classes. I trained and managed more than 100 volunteer teachers, and launched the organization's first internship program. In 2015 I accepted a manager position on the Education team at the Taubman Museum of Art, where I began in adult education before growing into the lead role for the department. I oversaw more than 200 community events including bimonthly late nights, artist talks, public performances, studio classes, guided tours, and more. I led a robust internship program and launched a job readiness component that included resume writing and job application support. I taught hundreds of classes, including a high school museum studies course that integrated museum history with art criticism & interpretation. I led ethical interpretation programming for the docent and volunteer cohorts in partnership with the exhibitions team, as well as professional development events for city and county school art educators. I was the only interpretive guide certified by the National Association of Interpretation on staff. In 2021, I pivoted to full time self-employment as a contract writer/editor. I am currently part of a small team of women at The Good Trade, a lifestyle media brand providing 100M readers with tips for sustainability, slow living, and self-care. I also write editorial pieces on motherhood, homes, gardens, design, and work culture for various digital and print publications.I am also at work on my first book, a novel about friendship, family, and how making and looking at art can help us be better people.
