I started my career out teaching research methods at Bracken Library as a GA for Ball State University. Once I completed my master's in English literature and rhetoric, I started working at a community college. After a few years, I was hired on full-time and worked my way to Associate Professor and then department chair for English, communications and languages for two campuses. I supervised up to 40 adjuncts and five full-time professors. When new management took over, it was evident that the liberal arts were no longer important (to them) and some unethical practices forced me to reevaluate my worth. I decided to leave and start a new career as a reference supervisor at my local public library, where I could use my research and genealogical skills to help patrons find what they're looking for. I started an MLIS degree through University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee. Working at the public library was a great experience, but I craved something more. In 2022, I had a chance meeting with HAI's CEO and she opened my eyes to the vast career possibilities of having an MLIS degree. I did some research on HAI and felt like this was going to be a place where I could learn and grow. I got hired on in November of 2022. As the marketing manager, I am able to use all of my education, life skills, and creative passions. Working from home has allowed me to take care of my family and myself, while still being an efficient member of the HAI team.
