Dallas/Fort Worth Area

-Managed United Way’s non-financial approaches to achieving community impact, including building coalitions, advocating for equitable public policies and strengthening the infrastructure of nonprofits.-Worked with a wide range of allies to develop targeted campaigns to persuade elected officials to adopt a specific policy or practice, like educating school district leadership on the need to expand breakfast or afternoon meal, or developing a city-wide movement to encourage its City Council to adopt a payday loan ordinance.-Led efforts to recruit and engage nonprofits in a regional #GivingTuesday campaign. In total, 495 nonprofits in the Dallas-Fort Worth region signed up to participate in 2018. -Continued to lead the organization’s advocacy and public policy efforts, including identifying policy priorities, educating advocates and elected officials about the priorities, and determining United Way’s level of involvement in advocacy campaigns. -Developed and expanded United Way's annual Eggs & Issues legislative breakfast which allows major donors to hear about policies changes in the areas of education, financial stability, and health in the most recent legislative session from local legislators. Over the past 9 years, the event has grown significantly to more than 100 in attendance annually and includes Ross Ramsey as the moderator. -Generated a variety of collateral materials to promote United Way’s policy priorities, including one pagers, online petitions, website content, action-orientated emails, and blog and social media posts.-Co-led efforts to launch an internal equity team and to update current policies to ensure they encourage diversity and inclusion.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

-Co-led the Community Impact Department’s strategic planning process by engaging all team members in more than 40 hours of discussion which resulted in the redesign United Way’s grant process and impact work.-Developed strategies to cultivate and maintain working relationships with over 45 key policymakers and their staff in United Way’s four county service area.-Recruited and trained more than 200 individuals to advocate for United Way’s policy priorities, including organizing at least 7 trips to the U.S. and Texas Capitols.-Actively participated in more than 10 coalitions that coordinated local and statewide advocacy campaigns to advance a variety of issues, such as quality early learning, reasonable lending practices, and expanding school and summer meals.-Represented United Way at multiple public hearings (at all levels of government) on a wide range of topics, like the need to improve child care standards, increase state funding for public pre-kindergarten, expand telehealth in schools, reasonable lending practices, and increased access to healthy food. -Recruited, trained, and managed a committee of about 12 volunteers that oversaw United Way’s advocacy work, approved its legislative agenda, and served as its main ambassadors to elected officials.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

-Re-launched United Way’s public policy program and developed its biennial state policy agenda to complement and magnify the organization’s investments and programs.-Built collaboratives and coalitions to mobilize multi-sector partners in support of key community issues, like working with the Dallas Regional Chamber and Commit! to rally the community behind quality early education.-Hosted multiple in-person and online advocacy trainings to help nonprofits build relationship with elected officials and get involved in the legislative process.-Evaluated a portfolio of grant applications from community nonprofits and wrote a section of UWMD’s regional Community Needs Assessment.-Represented the Community Impact Department on several internal cross-functional teams, including Young Professionals Taskforce, CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Data Wish List Team, and co-chaired the Values Team, which revamped the organization’s values and worked to improve employee morale.

-Tracked and evaluated legislation relating to taxes and the budget.-Composed over 100 bill evaluations, including an evaluation over the franchise tax (HB 3928) and adetailed report over the budget (HB 1).-Provided strategic support to over 50 state representatives and their staff.-Promoted sound public policy in a fast-paced environment.
