Dr. Whiteside is an ophthalmologist and proud native Texan currently living in Austin, Texas. He is passionate for his patients and their care, continuously striving for excellence in visual outcomes and patient satisfaction. Dr. Whiteside is currently helping to open and establish several LASIK clinics across the country, specifically in Nashville, Tennessee and San Diego, California. He has been the Chief Surgeon and Regional Medical Director for several LASIK clinics across Texas. He has served on the Medical Advisory Board for the nation's leading provider of LASIK, helping to refine patient outcomes and ensure patient safety. He has been performing refractive surgery for over 20 years, having performed over 50,000 refractive surgery procedures, including LASIK and PRK laser vision correction, refractive lens exchange, cataract surgery, and phakic IOLs.He has been awarded the distinction of "Top Doc" as the Top 1% of Lasik, Refractive, and Cataract Surgeons. He is a recipient of the Leadership Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as numerous other awards. During his service as a Naval Flight Surgeon, he was honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.He actively participates in clinical research trials, involving the anterior segment of the eye, new glaucoma therapies, and dry eye studies, as well as posterior segment retina studies involving macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusions. He has had a faculty appointment with the military, regularly lectures at the University of Texas, and has given many lectures at local, regional, and national professional medical education meetings, including the Keynote Address at an international refractive eye surgery meeting. He is a national surgical proctor for a leading LASIK laser manufacturer, helping fellow eye surgeons learn how to perform the technical aspects of the LASIK procedure.He is an active member of many professional societies and has held numerous positions at the local, regional, and national level. He has multiple publications in peer-reviewed literature scientific journals.He enjoys life in beautiful Austin, Texas with his college sweetheart and wife of over 30 years and 2 young adult children.
