Served on Board as Vice President of Allocations (1996-2004) President (2005), and as Treasurer (2010-2013). Our mission is to provide innovative and creative grants and scholarship opportunities for students and teachers in the La Porte Independent School District.

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Department is: to provide and manage superior parks and recreational facilities, innovative programs, and services that will provide our customers with pleasure and enrichment. Our City Council has long been an advocate for recreation and La Porte has an enviable array of recreation facilities for a city of 33,000. The Department is moving forward with new equipment, new facilities, and park upgrades to continue to improve the quality of life for our citizens. The City of La Porte operates a 350,000 gallon Wave Pool, a membership driven Recreation & Fitness Center, 2 bayside parks, 2 fishing piers, a rodeo/open riding arena, 3 neighborhood swimming pools, a Playground-Sprayground at Brookglen Park; all for the benefit of the citizens of La Porte. Recent additional facilities to the park system are Pecan Park & Sports Complex with its 10 youth baseball fields and pavilion; Wood Falls Park, both on the City’s near west side; and the Five Points Town Plaza in the Main Street District. The City has a total of 22 parks and recreation facilities, with baseball, softball, soccer, football, bicycle/pedestrian/exercise/nature trails, a senior center, a Special Populations Center, a Dog Park and other amenities for the enjoyment of our citizens and visitors. With the completion of the Pecan Park Bridge and Connector trail, we now have approximately 14 miles of bicycle/pedestrian trails including new trail connections to San Jacinto College from La Porte Senior High School. The Parks and Recreation Department also operates three recreation centers and rental facilities used for community functions by residents and other local groups.We will continue to make quality the guiding light for our activities, so that our community will continue to have the very best parks and recreation opportunities in the area, and the best quality of life. I began my career in Houston P&RD as a Laborer in 1972. Over the next two decades as my career progressed, I expanded my education and skills, and feel that I was able to make a substantive contribution to the quality of life in the City. I will always appreciate the opportunity to work and share the experiences with my colleagues in Houston. I take great pride driving on T.C. Jester and seeing beautiful Oaks and Silver Poplars I planted forty years ago.
