I've always loved programming. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with elegant solutions for complex problems.Over the years, my role has changed to include project management (team lead) and systems architect. I've been in a small company and have enjoyed being able to continue programming myself while performing these other roles. A normal day would often hold performing analysis for a potential future project, project management of a small team working on a current project, and coding/testing some tasks myself.I've spent my time working with a large system that contained many inter-connected sub-systems. As systems architect, new features had to be designed and distributed in a way that best reflected the responsibilities of each sub-system. One particularly challenging project was to improve search response times and system performance under load. I designed an approach which optimised the way that the application interacted with the database. This approach was successful and led to a significant improvement in speed/performance.In my free time, I enjoy going for walks as well as playing badminton and table tennis.With a desire to get my kids out of the city, since late 2011 I've been working remotely (although with a few trips into the office each year). We spent 5 years on a sheep farm (the farmer looked after the sheep - we enjoyed the space). Then we moved to Taiwan and I continued to work remotely for the same company. Working remotely has been ideal for me - certainly a lifestyle I would like to continue if possible.
