Dr Stephen King is a semi-retired senior academic and experienced manager. He has spent most of his career at the University of Leeds, England. Before joining the University of Leeds he worked as a business analyst for Rover cars and a Senior Research Fellow at the Advanced Technology Centre, University of Warwick. Even further back he has worked as a programmer for large software houses on banking and communications systems and as a lecturer in Computer Science at Bradford University where he developed a taste for teaching and research. So he is a techie turned manager and academic with a passion for programme design and connecting students to practise and practitioners. Stephen has held a number of senior roles in Leeds University Business School (LUBS) most notably as Head of Management Division (the largest division) and as Director for both the Full-time and Executive MBA programmes. He also founded and led the School’s only overseas-delivered programme: the MSc in Business Management run in conjunction with the German Graduate School of Management and Law in Heilbronn, near Stuttgart in southern Germany. He is a firm believer in the mantra of MBA pioneer Harvard’s Professor Srikant Datar that education should be about three things: Knowing, Doing, and Being. He strives to ensure that all students that work with him grow in all three dimensions. More recently he has led the successful MSc in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship at the Centre for Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Studies at LUBS. He also has experience in healthcare innovation and has taught innovation to Medical School students at Leeds University.Stephen has extensive international education experience, having taught for 6 years on the Leeds MBA delivered in Singapore, as well as leading and teaching on the MSc Business Management in southern Germany for 12 years. He has led MBA study tours to China and Brazil as well as hosting MBA alumni and recruitment events in India, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Nigeria.

Director Msc Business Management (Germany)University Of Leeds Oct 2007 - Dec 2019Leeds, Uk And Heilbronn, GermanyFounder and leader of this prestige programme for over 12 years. The programme was the only LUBS programme delivered overseas during this time period. The programme attracted aspiring young managers from all over Germany and from major firms including IBM, VW, Audi, KPMG, Bosch, Siemens and many more. Teaching was via a “flying faculty” model with Leeds academics flying to southern Germany at weekends, as students were working during the week. I delivered some of the teaching as well as leading the programme remotely from England, with several visits to Heilbronn each year.

Mba DirectorUniversity Of Leeds Sep 2009 - Aug 2013Leeds, UkThe Executive MBA was a 2-year, block taught programme to senior managers delivered at the university’s prestigious executive education centre at Weetwood Hall, Leeds. The full-time MBA was a 1-year programme and regularly featured in the Financial Times Global 100 rankings. I introduced many innovations including three team-based Business Challenges (new venture, consultancy, and boardroom challenges), International Study Tours, Business Simulations, and revitalised the network of firms offering company-based summer projects. The role also entailed leading international recruitment and alumni events as well as overseeing AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB accreditations. -
Senior Lecturer In Information ManagementUniversity Of Leeds Jan 1994 - Aug 2013Leeds, UkTeaching and researching in information systems and information management. My research focused on the adoption of new technology by organisations and the impacts therein. Specifically, large-scale IT system implementation (ERP and CRM), e-government, and e-health. The e-health work focused on telecare and involved the evaluation of the UK’s largest telecare system showing both benefits to patients and the many barriers to more widespread adoption. Alongside this work, there has been a stream of work looking more broadly at co-production and its potential to improve patient care. The e-government work included social network analysis of local government projects and the use of social media to improve local government services. This work was presented at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and led to my chairing two major international conferences on citizen-centric public services: in Johannesburg, and in London. Supervising PhD and Masters dissertation students.
