I am an experienced mental health nurse, having qualified as an RMN and registering with the NMC in 2013. I am currently employed as a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at MMU, where I attained my PG-qualification in Teaching in Higher Education. I was the Programme Lead for the BSc in Mental Health Nursing. I have published academic papers on the topics of psychotropic medication, and risk assessment. My areas of expertise include prescribing, risk assessment & suicide prevention, and psychotropic medication. I lead a successful and popular unit on Medicines Management.I have held various clinical positions and roles, and have worked in Home Treatment teams, PICU, and in CMHTs for older adults. My true passion was in emergency and urgent psychiatry, having worked for the liaison psychiatry service at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, a very busy, urban hospital in NW England. I worked there for 6-7 years in various roles.I pioneered a brand new service where I was Clinical Lead for Frequent Attenders, in a project born of the NHS England CQUIN framework. I established a bespoke service, working with service users who regularly attended A&E, and was responsible for a 45% reduction in attendance in this cohort.I trained as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and was responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who attended the hospital with mental health needs. I am a qualified Independent Prescriber, and registered with the NMC. I have experience of setting up education and training programmes, and ran regular sessions on mental illness awareness and suicide prevention for other healthcare professionals who regularly see and treat people with mental health problems, such as paramedics, adult nurses, and medical doctors. I am a regular speaker with a CPD Company, and can tailor bespoke topics to a diverse audience. I am open to consultancy work for any organisations who have mental health training requirements.I also work as an Expert Witness and have written several liability reports in civil litigation cases. I have received instructions from both Claimants and Defendants. This role requires me to scrutinise the care provided to people who have come to harm or died during the course of their treatment, and give me expert opinion on whether or not the actions or omissions of the provider contributed to or caused injury.
