About Stephen Mcmanus

I am currently Reserve Team Coach at Celtic FC. I was previously U18 Manager at Celtic FC,Reserve Coach & U18s Head Coach at Motherwell FC.I am an ex professional football player who competed recently in the SPL with Motherwell FC. I have played internationally for Scotland as well as in the UEFA Champions League with Celtic FC, where I progressed through the youth ranks and played professionally for seven years making over 200 appearances,I've also played in England for Middlesbrough FC and Bristol City FC.I am a central team player and disciplined professional who has learned from some of the top managers in the game including Gordon Strachan, Martin O'Neill and Stuart McCall at club level and Walter Smith and Alex McLeish internationally. I am also an aspiring coach who has gained invaluable experience working within the Middlesbrough FC and Motherwell FC academies, Throughout my career I have strived to learn as much as I can from the managers, coaches and players around me, and I take pride in giving back to the game by helping its next stars develop. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Testimonial“Stephen is a very intelligent player, someone who really takes things in and is keen to pass on his own learnings from the game to others. He has without doubt worked exceptionally hard to get where he is in football and you don’t become captain of Celtic and Scotland without putting in the effort and making sacrifices. He has an ability to put people at ease and is a leader on and off the field.”Gordon Strachan

While playing at Middlesbrough I gained first-hand experience in one of the most productive and forward thinking academies in England by assisting Paul Jenkins in the coaching of the U16 team. Testimonials:“Stephen is a true professional with an exemplary approach to his work. He coached within our academy while playing with the first team squad, a role that required a lot of time and effort on Stephen’s part but one that he applied himself 100% to. He was thorough in his preparation and planning of coaching sessions for U16 team and used his experience as a club captain to really motivate the players. Stephen has a great footballing knowledge but also an evident desire to keep learning, and he is a real credit to the game.”David Parnaby - Academy Manager, Middlesbrough FC▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬“I worked closely with Stephen during his time at Middlesbrough, where he had the foresight to use his time in a positive way and gain hands on coaching experience, something I’ve rarely seen from professional players in my 20 year career. Initially I led all the sessions with our U16 team, but I threw him in at the deep end when I told him at the last minute that he would have to lead a session. Stephen adapted to this perfectly though, and the players obviously really respected him for his dedication and thorough preparation. I really can’t speak highly enough about Stephen, and would readily hire him as a coach if there was a position available at the club when he retires.”Paul Jenkins - Youth Coach, Middlesbrough FC
