I am a leader in Theological Education, writer, teacher and speaker. My most recent work has been in higher education administration, academic/instructional development and Teaching (eLearning). As an expert researcher, my work in theology and critical studies has appeared in print, web, online, conference papers, video podcasts and more. My primary focus is on building leaders and strengthening theological and church related institutions. I do this through developing the knowledge, skills and abilities of people committed to building a better future for our society and world.During my time as President of Chicago Theological Seminary we achieved the following:- maintained the highest enrollment in the school's history for 2 years during a time of downturn in our industry- formed a partnership with the Bayan Graduate Institute for Islamic Studies- moved to a fully remote operation during the first year of the Covid pandemic with no loss of efficiency or educational delivery- developed the first non deficit spending budget in nearly a decade- achieved a curriculum review and implementation which contributed to the school's economic vitality- reorganized staffing and department structure to focus on building successful partnerships in the following communities:

Associate Professor Of African-American Studies (W Tenure); Director, Urban Theological InstituteLutheran Theological Seminary At Philadelphia Jul 2005 - Jun 2008Greater Philadelphia AreaAs the Director of the Urban Theological Institute (UTI) I was tasked with re-imagining what had been a general theological curriculum which was geared toward bi-vocational and second career African-American clergy persons in the Philadelphia area. As well, the Institute sponsored yearly public events programming. Under my direction the UTI developed the Black Church Concentration in the LTSP general curriculum. This curriculum concentration provided a more focused engagement of the African-American Church tradition and provided resources for the entire curriculum. I was also responsible for teaching courses in the concentration and the theology area, more generally, and supervising adjuncts engaged to teach courses in the curriculum. In addition to the development of the Black Church concentration I initiated a collaboration with local churches which led to the formation of the Certificate Program in Church Leadership geared specifically for laity serving in leadership roles in their churches. This first of its kind program, in the greater Philadelphia area, is a two year program brought the fruits of theological education to lay leaders through the following four semester long modules: 1) Church Administration, 2) Teaching and Learning in the Church, 3) Music Ministry in the Church, and 4) Pastoral Care. I was responsible for recruitment and oversight of teachers (all of whom held post graduate degrees from accredited schools of theological education) and for growing the number of local churches who would collaborate with the seminary in this program. Finally, I oversaw the initiation of an annual celebration of Black Sacred Music held at the seminaryI was responsible for the management of a 3 persons staff, and additional seminary resources as needed on an ad-hoc basis.
