● Currently leading and managing a long-term effort to rewrite enterprise applications that compose the backbone of CMU’s network management platform (IPAM, DNS, DHCP, Incident Response, Switchport Configuration, and Network Monitoring). Existing applications are written in classical LAMP design. The new implementation leverages Ruby, Rails, and ExtJS, Node.JS, Express, Backbone.js and d3.js to implement a complete AJAX web-based UI, coupled with a complete REST compliant web services. Personally wrote four of the new systems’ code, and managing a team of developers to complete the remaining systems. ● Developed and currently maintains the Workflow::XPDL module (http://search.cpan.org/~srhoton/Workflow-XPDL-0.40/lib/Workflow/XPDL.pm), originally built to assist with workflow modeling in the incident response application. ● Designed, planned and implemented a new system management platform for the network development team, leveraging Red Hat Enterprise 5/6, Gitolite, and Puppet. Instrumented the implementation with Ruby and Unix shell scripts to allow real time alerting and reporting for system status and package information. This system is now being using used as reference architecture for CMU’s effort to re-engineer its own Linux architecture (Andrew Linux).● Charter membership of Computing Services Service Oriented Architecture Center of Excellence (SOA-COE). Gave recommendations to upper management regarding use of SOA, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Web Service Technology. Currently evaluating ESB technologies for CMU.● Guest lecturer in School of Computer Science (SCS) classes.

Manage, maintain, and develop the software development portion of the Network Service Group and Carnegie Mellon University.

● Lead SQL Server DBA, responsible for maintaining and implementing SQL Server 7.0/2000/2005 systems, ranging in size from 2 GB to 350 GB, in both standalone and clustered configuration. Systems include OLAP, OLTP, and data archiving solutions.● Lead Oracle DBA responsible for designing and implementing new Oracle 9.2 and 10.2 environment, with databases ranging in size from 1 GB to > 1 TB. ● Architect for new project to rewrite existing legacy client-server application in a Service Oriented architecture (SOA). Responsibilities include partitioning data in SODA compliant methodology, and integrating existing OLAP/DSS systems.

● Subject matter expert on Oracle Database technologies. Twice published on US-CERT vulnerability notes (Document numbers 932124 and 805737).● Oracle DBA responsible for maintaining multiple Oracle databases, ranging in size from 30 GB to more than 5 TB., versions 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.1. Built monitoring environment for databases using OEM/Grid Control and Nagios, and implemented performance improvements to DSS systems that reduced daily data load times from 7 hours to 15 minutes.● Lead Sql Server DBA, responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple SQL Server systems. Designed and implemented multiple redundant systems for production implementations. Designed SQL Server cluster for maintaining mission critical data, then mentored Junior DBA as he completed testing and implementation phases.● Lead Postgresql and MySQL DBA. Designed, built and maintained 7 Postgres databases, ranging in size from 30 GB to 600 GB. Internal subject matter expert on Postgres and MySQL issues.
