Stephen is the Managing Director of SW Advisory. Prior to setting up his own company, Stephen was a Director and senior consultant with Intelligent Energy Systems (IES). Stephen has worked for fifteen years as a consultant and prior to that he worked for over ten years in the electricity industry for several hydro generators.Stephen was heavily involved in the development of Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM), in particular, the development of: the original chapter 3 of the Market Rules, particularly the dispatch and pricing parts, the ancillary services market, the settlement residue auction (SRA) and the arrangements for merchant inter-connectors. Stephen brings extensive experience and knowledge in the matters associated with: • electricity market design and implementation; • dispatch engines and dispatch and pricing issues;• generator operations and strategy in electricity markets; • technical training in electricity markets and the applications of statistics and mathematical programming to these markets; • modelling electricity markets including modelling the impacts of generator gaming behaviour on market outcomes; • the renewable energy target (RET) and the modelling of renewable energy certificate (REC) market; • water resources optimisation including hydro electric generator operations and urban water operation and investment; and• statistics, modelling and operations research.
