Hired by the group I did an internship for. Progressed through various OpenStack projects in several capacities from individual contributor to technical lead. All projects met release targets and quality standards.Was the technical lead in the early implementation of a blue-sky project, which has since become the standard HP OpenStack platform.Most experience with python, Ansible, and shell scripting. Used MySQL, Postgres and RabbitMQ. Some experience with Java EE, ruby, and chef. Used git/gerrit for revision control. My years of experience have given me a broad technical base, together with a knowledge of how to get things done. Worked in an agile environment and ran the daily scrum meetings as scrum-master.Worked on various OpenStack components, learning on-the-job. Volunteered for what were seen as more difficult elements (e.g. neutron, swift, TLS implementation, extra security responsibilities).Passed the CISSP exams at first attempt, after self-funded, self-organized study.Founded the Sacramento chapter of the OpenStack User Group.

I was the team lead for HP Premier Services since December 2009. I provided support consultancy to Premiere Customers for HP Management Software. My clients were large, strategic, global customers implementing complex systems and network management solutions. I thrived on the challenge of helping my customers realize their goals in an effective and timely manner with minimal cost.One of my key accounts was Lehman Brothers: they had a reputation for being difficult to manage, demanding, and persistently unhappy with support. Working closely with the account manager, we managed to turn this around and Lehman renewed their contract consistently, up until they filed for bankruptcy. I volunteered to become a knowledge coach and provided mentoring to other team members, both formally and informally.

For three months in 2011 I participated as a software developer on the Monitoringand Abstraction Layer team for an HP Cloud product. My task was to integrate theproduct into Nagios, using Groovy, Python, and PHP. Groovy and PHP were new to meon starting the project. The project was a success, the aims were completed, and theintegration documented.

I provided expert level, global support for OpenView Operations Unix, and Windows. Initially based in the UK, I voluntarily worked US hours as I saw that this was where the support need was greatest. I moved to the US in 1999.I volunteered and was accepted for the team lead position on the Microsoft Smart Plug-In virtual team, while still remaining part of the Expert Center team.I liaised with Research and Development, Current Product Engineering, and Marketing on support improvement initiatives and training.I identified several areas where support needed extra tools and contributed several such tools, including a graphical trace file viewer and a widely used tcpconnect utility.

I spent 17 months as CEO, owner, and sole employee of Strata Communications Ltd, freelancing as a systems management consultant. Throughout this time, I was contracted to HP.I took pride in delivering excellent customer service. For example, the UK Post Office (a large, strategically significant customer) recognized me with a special award for outstanding service. I was the highest call taker in the team, with none of my calls being escalated.

I started with the Halifax (a major bank in the UK) as a clerk in London, moving to mainframe computer operations. I worked my way up to a team lead position, taking training on team management. I left as a systems management analyst, planning and organizing the implementation of HP systems management products across thousands of systems.
