Stephen is an international lawyer focusing on maritime, energy and infrastructure projects and disputes. He leads cross border multi-jurisdictional and disciplinary teams to devise and implement strategies involving the legal, diplomatic and communication strategies on complex problems or projects. In recent years his focus has been on assisting governments achieve on international problems (including maritime boundaries in resource rich areas), special economic zones, international treaties and the renewable energy sector.Stephen has lived and practised in Hong Kong, the Middle East and Europe and while now based in his home Australia, travels and works almost entirely on international and cross border projects. Chambers & Partners have recognised Stephen for his 'reputation as a tireless deal maker who goes above and beyond to meet the client’s needs', that 'he takes a lead role on all matters and he makes a great impression and knows his stuff'. On the pro bono front Stephen has been a significant contributor, and is considered a trusted advisor, to a number of developing countries over the last ten years. He also managed a team of DLA lawyers on the ground in the Paris COP21 treaty negotiations, acting for several countries and organisations, re-drafting of a number of provisions that found their way into that historic climate change treaty. Stephen has on-going strategic level roles on several significant or impactful renewable energy projects.
