As Engineered Wood Product Manager, responsibilities include all engineering design work, supervision and direction of designers, scheduling, purchasing, and fabrication of product. Projects include primarily residential and light commercial buildings.

As Director of Engineering responsibilities included all engineering design work, supervision of various projects and direction of designers. Projects included primarily commercial and industrial facilities, ranging from shopping centers to medical complexes to manufacturing plants. Total yearly work volume was approximately $40 million. Design work included site development and drainage design, structural and foundation design, HVAC design, and miscellaneous other items. Also, configured, purchased and operated the computer system to automate the design functions of the engineering department including the selection of the CAD software. The system consisted of ten workstations.

DUTIES: Assisted in the design of HVAC systems for several projects including some for Fiber Industries, Celanese and Martin Marietta. These projects required sizing explosion relief ducts and devices for vessels and enclosures; thermal expansion for pipes and high temperature ductwork; particulate pollution control for chemical emissions. Also wrote a comprehensive report for Allied Chemical Company's crystal growth facility where a field survey involved taking numerous, miscellaneous readings. The information obtained was used to determine the adequacy of their HVAC systems and to make recommended improvements on system operation and energy conservation. Was lead engineer on a project for Allied General Nuclear Services (AGNS) at Barnwell, SC where HVAC systems were designed for several office additions, and a greenhouse used for research. Also wrote a computer program to model a complex, high temperature, high velocity process air and material handling system.

DUTIES: As Field Engineer located at Duke Power's Catawba Nuclear Station, work included redesigning ductwork and seismic supports for HVAC systems as required to meet field conditions. Work involved approximately 75,000 lineal feet of ductwork and more than 12,000 seismic supports, plus fans and air handling units. The system was designed to withstand a tri-axial seismic disturbance, applied simultaneously. The seismic qualification was performed by analysis by an independent engineering group. Additional tasks included writing miscellaneous procedures, purchasing and scheduling. Also recommended improvements to the owner. In direct responsible charge of drafting and all technical tasks. performed tests on such U. S. Air Force Fighters as the F111 and F-16. Testing included applying loads to simulate in-flight conditions for structural integrity tests. Testing involved full-scale static and durability tests. Designs included a structure large enough to enclose and strong enough to test to failure the entire F-16 for the above mentioned tests. Used computers for design and test applications. As Design Engineer and later as Liaison Engineer, worked as engineering representative to other departments (including machine shop, planning, scheduling, outside production, production line, material procurement and logistics). Main responsibilities included interpreting, making corrections, adding improvements, and resolving problems on design drawings. Was appointed by the U. S. Air Force to serve on the Material Review Board (MRB). Primary function in this position was in the area of bonding which included graphite and fiberglass bonded panels. Other functions included MRB coverage for the production line and assembly line, sheet metal shop, machine shop, and vendor parts.
