About Steve Marks
Started engineering by gaining a Gold CREST award at the age of 17 while attending secondary school. From here a natural progression into Swansea University where a Civil Engineering (Hons) degree was gained. Two months later started working as a graduate structural engineer developing knowledge and acquiring experience in a range of topics, from structural design in the main four materials to project management and coordination.

Graduate Structural Engineer
Has taking part in a range of different projects using a wide variety of skills. Project teams have consisted of 5 to 30+.Design tasks include: R.C. Frame, Masonry, Steel and Timber composite construction and the associated communication and coordination with third parties and subcontractors.Projects have involved using initiative to evaluate problems and find solutions. Examples include:-- Founding onto various strata using different types of foundations (strip, piled. raft) and a knowledge of their characteristics.- Using steel to cater for difficult situations and defining the details in order to allow all the components to work together.- Evaluating openings and brick piers to find a cost effective solution while sticking within the architects vision and then liaising with lintel and PC floor manufacturers.- Using computational software to aid design. For example, using finite element analysis of a concrete frame to determine forces within the structure and therefore the parameters of its construction.
