Executive Director
CurrentSLAM: Salt Lake Academy of Music is a nonprofit, socially conscious music school that I co-founded in 2019. SLAM is a progression on the award-winning rock and blues programs offered by MusicGarage.Org that are now a part of SLAM in addition to classical, jazz, Americana, hip hop and electronic music programs. SLAM’s socially conscious vision provides instruments, lessons, performance, recording and touring programs for K-12 regardless of race, religion, gender, identity, orientation or socioeconomics. SLAM’s mission is to provide safe, effective and enduring music education through individual and group instruction, performances, recording and touring. SLAM will operate in the former MusicGarage.Org’s 1,800 sq ft state-of-the-art teaching facility and recording studios in Sugar House. SLAM seeks to actualize our vision by May 2020 to allow for free and sliding fee scale services by June 2020 starting with summer day camps.SLAM capitalizes on MusicGarage.Org's ten-year track record as Salt Lake County’s most award-winning music school, serving hundreds of youth from five Counties since 2009. The average MusicGarage.Org student performed as many as 24 festival, special event and venue shows a year and enrolled in the program for 3.25 years. Uniquely, MusicGarage.Org incubated student original bands that recorded and performed their original music at area festivals and venues. Thanks to a 2013-2019 fiscal sponsorship from the Utah Arts Alliance, as many as 44% of students received scholarship benefits during peak need years. As a free-standing nonprofit, SLAM can do more. SLAM donations at slamslc.org/donations or by mail at SLAM, 1192 Wilmington Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT 84106 are tax-deductible. While raising funds in Q4 2019, SLAM is seeking to expand its Board of Directors to help steer the organization toward success for years to come. If you are in a position to help with a donation or to get involved as a Board member, let’s talk!
