In the blog, I reviewed a publication on the electrochemical synthesis of unnatural amino acids from the group of Prof. Phil S. Baran, see: https://www.bioascent.com/news-events/news/highlights-in-synthesis-unnatural-amino-acids.• I am a member of BioAscent’s literature awareness group, tasked with highlighting any useful or relevant publications from ChemRxiv and Chemical Science. I review and present 2× papers/month on a PowerPoint slide format with the inclusion of useful text and schemes.• I had a lead role in preparing the first-round entry for BioAscent's submission to the 2023 RSC/SCI Retrosynthesis Competition, designing the synthetic route and delegating literature searching responsibilities.• I routinely suggest targets based on new data achieved while considering appropriate pharmacokinetic parameters alongside molecular docking. I also regularly propose synthesis routes and conditions for challenging transformations—some of which have even become standard conditions.• Regular preparation of high quality slides for external presentations to clients.

This involved collaborating with an external partner to ensure project goals were met alongside planning for future stages that involved pharmacological evaluation of the synthesised analogues.Other projects included:1. The Organocatalytic Dimerization of Succinaldehyde (Org. Synth. 2022, 99, 139).• Prepared an Organic Syntheses procedure for the synthesis of a key bicyclic enal that the Aggarwal group uses in the total synthesis of complex prostaglandins.• Re-optimised the previously published procedure to ensure higher levels of reproducibility and a simpler work-up.2. De Novo Synthesis of Dihydrobenzofurans and Indolines and Its Application to a Modular, Asymmetric Synthesis of Beraprost (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2023, 145, 14124).• Designed and helped complete a modular and stereoselective total synthesis of the anti-platelet drug beraprost.• Developed a novel strategy for the construction of dihydrobenzofurans and indolines using an IEDDA/cheletropic extrusion sequence followed by a base-mediated aromatization reaction.• Supervised two Masters students on the project.3. Oversaw the pharmacological studies of a novel prostacyclin analogue.• Assisted in obtaining pharmacokinetic data for a prostacyclin analogue through collaboration with colleagues in pharmacology. This involved preparing nanomolar quantities of the prostacyclin for plasma and in vivo mice studies.• Worked with colleagues in mass spectrometry to analyse these samples and gain information about the compoiund's metabolism.• Outsourced and worked with an external partner to obtain ADME data.Finally, I also supervised a visiting Ph.D. student in my last three-months, working together on the synthesis of a fluorothromboxane A₂ analogue to provide material for biological analysis.
