I was the official voice of the state's flagship university; helped guide and coach writers and editors at Nebraska in telling the university’s stories of success, connection and impact; wrote and edited key content on behalf of university leadership; and was a leader of the university’s.

Placed university sources and stories in the national media. Maintained contact and relationships with national media outlets. Wrote for internal and external university-related publications. Communicated placement successes to campus. In my tenure, national media placements tripled.

Wrote "Forever Red: Confessions of A Cornhusker Football Fan", a 75,000-word memoir, for the University of Nebraska Press. An updated and revised edition with five new chapters was published in fall 2015. A third edition was released in paperback in 2018.

Covered higher education and public safety, and also served an extended stint on the City Desk. Helped conceive and execute the organization’s "Redefining Local News" initiative, which placed focus on a range of topics, from quality of life to issues surrounding how Renoites live. Served on a local committee to attract young readers.

San Bernardino, California

Covered education, crime and courts and also served as a part-time assistant city editor. Aggressively pursued news in both of The Sun's news bureaus, including stays in Fontana and Redlands.

Visalia, California

Covered education, police and courts, and also worked on the City Desk part-time. Won the George Gruner Award for Meritorious Community Journalism for coverage of the shooting death of a police officer during a scuffle with gang members.
