Steve has worked across a wide range of marine industry fields with over 35 years experience.Starting out as a Fitter and Turner in his home town, Nelson he progressed to opening a boat sales and brokerage business with his Father, Don in 1993. NZ Boat Sales is now represented throughout NZ and Australia offering a wide range of both new and used boats for sale, along with boat insurance and valuation services. Steve is very excited to be working part time as Operations Manager for Marine AI, a Uk based company now set up and operating in Nelson, NZ. Marine AI’s Guardian systems use robust Artificial Intelligence and Decision-Making modelling to augment manned-vessel operations and enable fully autonomous voyages, maximising efficiency and safety while ensuring regulatory compliance. Utilising experience and working knowledge from Marine AI and MSubs in Plymouth England, Steve will be working with software developers and engineers, continuing to develop and trial the proven GUARDIAN system in partnership with various NZ maritime industries and companies.The GUARDIAN Manned solution uses the onboard AI Captain’s “foresight” to assist crew members with decision-making at sea. The system provides an enhanced assessment of navigation risk which enables the best possible lowest-risk actions to be taken.2024 will see a manned demonstration vessel fitted with the GUARDIAN system and trials commencing from Nelson along with the construction of a new 4 metre "Uncrewed Surface Vessel" (USV).
