I have been a Steelworker a record producer, a hit songwriter, and an educator and was once described by "Future Democracy" as “one of Europe's most original thinkers on community engagement using new technologies”. I'm currently engaged in my more creative side: Writing, recording and performing music. Creative writing and giving talksI’ve taught wikis in a Museum in Vienna, social media deep in a forest in Poland, multimedia in Germany and lectured in Heavy Metal at the University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. I have taught classes in Higher Education at degree level, in Further Education Colleges as well as primary and secondary schools. I’ve has supported Social Enterprises, SME’s and Communities. I instigate innovative and creative projects involving everyone from the youngsters to those not so young. This video has some examples https://vimeo.com/178727810 I have worked as a consultant to various Universities and Local Authorities on research projects around people, communities and technology. I have been PI and Co-I on three AHRC research projects within the Connected Communities and Cultural Economy Thematic. I am a founder member of the International Community Informatics Research Network (CIRN) and a “core member” of the Digital Economy ‘Communities and Culture’ Network (CCN+) I was for 15 years the Community Engagement Coordinator and Social Entrepreneur in Residence at Teesside. In 2015 I was awarded the Vice Chancellors Award for “Excellence in Community Engagement”I am also a successful songwriter having written songs that have been recorded by Celine Dion, Sheena Easton, Elkie Brooks, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Tygers of Pan Tang, Baby Ford, Colin Blunstone, Elaine Page and Chris Farlowe.
