I started out building and maintaining swimming pools for Fresh-a-Pools. As a sideline of this business, I manufactured and installed magnetic water conditioners and later on helped design the MKII model which was sold globally. I also manufactured and installed salt water pool chlorinators. I moved into contracting with a number of electricians and worked on industrial sites such as the Pahiatua milk powder factory and Fortex Venson plant, to name a few. From there I discovered trade wholesale and began work at Zip Plumbing supplies as Inventory Controller, where I reorganised and catalogued over $1M worth of stock, reducing shrinkage and shortening stocktake to 4hrs. I then moved to MasterTrade then owned by PDL as a sales rep. Success in this field earned me a promotion to Branch Manager of the Paraparaumu branch, where I doubled turnover in two years. This led to promotion to Regional Business Development Manager, where I secured significant contracts within the oil and petrochemical industries. The company was sold to Crane Distribution which branched out into industrial safety equipment, and I established and became the first Branch manager for Equipsafety, Wellington. A change in my personal life brought me to Tauranga where I became Operations Manager for the Certified Builders Association of NZ, where I was involved with construction law and leaky building syndrome. However I missed trade wholesale and then became Branch Manager for Rexel Electrical Wholesalers in Tauranga. After a short run here, I felt it was time to move forward and enjoyed a sea change at School Supplies where I dealt exclusively with schools and their unique needs in computers, furniture, hygiene and stationery. Currently, I am Client Manager for APS in the Waikato/BOP area. This is a territory development, sales, management role in the commercial property arena where my past experiences are proving extremely useful.
