I started a printing apprenticeship in Harper Collins, one of the largest global book publishers and printing companies, straight from school. However, after a number of years of lacking investment and the printing side of the business being sold to a smaller independent book printing company, the writing was on the wall for the future of the business. So, I made a career changing decision and left the print industry behind me. I started working for BT Cellnet where I cut my teeth in sales selling mobile phone packages to suit the customers needs as they became an important part of modern culture in a call centre taking inbound calls. However, after a couple of years the office relocated to England, so I took redundancy and used it as an opportunity to further broaden my horizons. I looked for a further move within sales and that was when I made my best career move by becoming Tele Account Manager at Tennent Caledonian Breweries who were being taken over by Interbrew UK, (now AB InBev). I say my best move as it opened up my career in the drinks industry. Two further years in role followed and I decided I needed to move in a new direction again and successfully became a Beer Technical Rep, for which I relocated to Aberdeen. This role was a combination of frontline customer services, maintenance and installation of beer dispense systems, beer quality control, training bar staff about quality issues and how to get the best out their beer. I then made the move which sees me where I am today. For personal reasons I had to move home to Glasgow where I had gained employment with Diageo in the Guinness Field Quality Team. This was the key to me really embracing the drinks industry, which I have a real passion for and am proud to be associated with some of the best known and iconic alcohol brands in the world. On top of the previous responsibilities as a Tech Rep, I manage my own territory prioritising and scheduling work to maximise efficiency but still deliver against SLA’s. I plan preventative maintenance calls around reactive calls and installations. I have also been involved in project managing and executing large events and have been a proud ambassador of all Diageo brands. In addition, after being nominated to and completing a train the trainer course I’ve been very closely involved in training most new starts into role since I started with the company either as the main in role trainer or as a support trainer within the Scotland team. I was also delegated to represent Guinness as a quality ambassador on a quality drive project in The USA.
