Field Service Engineer - Subsea Controls

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

I'm a subsea production controls Field Service Engineer currently assigned in a FPSO support role for ExxonMobil's Kizomba project in Angola. I predominantly work with electrical hardware and software but also with hydraulic experience. My day to day jobs include monitoring and operating the Master Control Station (a Siemens PCS7 PLC system) and the Hydraulic Power Unit as well as assisting the production team with their preventative maintenance and addressing any faults that may occur. I often have to liaise with the project teams onshore in Angola and back in the UK on larger matters to ensure we exceed the customers needs on any challenges we face. I also assist with the commissioning of new subsea wells, carrying out actions from the platform in cooperation with the work boat at the well itself. After commissioning I usually remain on the platform to address any issues seen when production starts on the well.I have worked in West Africa, the Far East and Egypt as well as the UK. My experience with GE has involved working with cutting edge technologies (fibre optic subsea communication systems using I.P addresses) through to legacy equipment on brownfield sites and older projects. I've also been fortunate to have experience in all aspects of projects from early development, factory testing, site integration testing, installation, commissioning and after market service.

Sep 2012 - Oct 2017

Field Service Eng

During my time with Aker Solutions as an ad-hoc Field Service Engineer I was involved in site integration testing, installing, commissioning and aftermarket services including routine preventative maintenance and modifications on modern and legacy subsea production control systems. Many of these systems were PLC based system. Every job would have a mobilisation meeting where the job would be talked through along with the schedule and check all procedures and paperwork were in order, and a demobilisation meeting where all completed procedures were handed in and the job was reviewed to see if there was anything we could improve next time. These meeting often had a customer representative in attendance.

Nov 2010 - Aug 2012

Avionics Tech

Raf Lossiemouth

I was an Avionics Technician working first line on the Tornado GR4.My primary duty was the rectification of the avionic systems including terrain following and ground mapping radar, radios, flying control system, navigation systems, flight instruments and cockpit displays. The job also required for all related paperwork and procedures to be kept up to date and completed swiftly. Occasionally I was required to assist with modifications and out of phase maintenance on the aircraft. Working as part of a team I was often asked towards the end of my time in the RAF to assist and mentor lesser experienced technicians. I was also multi-skilled to cover an Electrical Technicians role where I assisted in the rectification of the fuel system, landing gear, nose wheel steering, store management and aircraft wiring. As well as working as a technician I was also trained on flight line operations. Routine tasks on the flight line were before flight, after flight and turn around servicings. These involved refueling the aircraft, fitted liquid oxygen supply, preparing the ejector seats and inspecting the airframe for damage. I was also required to participate in housekeeping duties and FOD prevention.
