Responsibilities:• Absorb and understand complex meteorological information and be able to communicate this to RAF Pilots quickly and efficiently.• Be constantly aware or the requirements and limits of individual aircraft (and various pilots) in order to tailor forecasts to what is relevant to them.• Constantly maintain an exceptionally high standard of work to very tight deadlines, as would be expected in a military environment.• Constantly monitor and adapt information, keeping various sources constantly updated with any relevant changes.• Use various different computer programs and models in conjunction with real life data and be constantly monitoring for new programs and technologies to improve our forecasts. • Multi-task, prioritise and manage in highly pressurised situations.• Co-ordinate a three-man team to ensure the office is run efficiently. Shift leaders would change day by day.• Take part in regional and national conferences to discuss the current UK wide forecast and ensure a consistent story is maintained by all operational meteorologists. • At times conduct over 10 presentations a day, often with little time to prepare before or in between each presentation.• Detached as a senior meteorologist within one year to advise Gatwick airport, receiving highly positive feedback.• Detached for 6 months to RAF Ascension Island in the South Atlantic where I was part of a three man team for all meteorological research and information.
