A UK theatre industry leader, my career has been marked by a commitment to revitalizing the arts through inclusivity and collaboration. I am a highly skilled director, dramaturg and producer with a portfolio encompassing classics, new writing, opera, community and participatory work, dance and circus across institutions including The Royal Ballet and Opera, the Young Vic and The Roundhouse as well as many of the UK’s regional theatres. As a director, my successes range from the Time Out Critics’ Choice Othello (reimagined a a site-specific horror installation across the remains of Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre, Bankside) to the 40th anniversary revival of Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls, rewritten in collaboration with Caryl herself. I am proudest of my work transforming the artist, audience and staff profiles at some of the country’s leading companies, including Leicester Curve, HighTide and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, helping re-secure Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation funding. Together with other statutory and local authority funding, trusts and foundations and philanthropic giving, and co-production investment, I have played an instrumental role in securing approximately £25M worth of arts funding over the past decade; generating viable and sustainable futures for institutions and individual theatremakers alike.
