Teaching is perhaps the most ancient of all the professions. Its contemporaries, maybe, commerce, military and writing etc. have all survived the ravages of time and gained profound magnitude in human living. The occupation of a teacher, I believe, is the most essential since it is the elemental force which germinates a life into living, thereby, proclaiming the genesis of all the learnings. The day, I chose my profession as a teacher, found me under some tremendous conflict between finding a job and deciding a career. Finally, my father, the humblest gentleman, unravelled the knot. He enlightened me with the cruelest truth, the reality that is to be disentangled only after you nosedive into the profession of teaching. He said, “A teacher’s profession is not a mere job, it is a career for a lifetime. The moment you join this antique community of teachers, there is an unmistakable magnetism, a hypnosis that works so badly in your nerves that you can’t help but going deep into the chasm. But you have to be patient to hear your true calling as a teacher.”To me, teaching is challenging, maddening at times but rewarding nonetheless. As a teacher, I estimate my value as one of the most demanding professionals. The present-age education system has empowered the students with a whole set of repertoire only to maneuver their intelligence through a short-cut for success. Time demands that a teacher has to understand this trend of education and muster courage to chart a route for these kids that helps them attain a long-term prospect in life.
