Suzanne Matthews is the Director of the Center for Financial and Economic Education at Westchester Community College, starting this position in May, 2011. She is responsible for developing and coordinating comprehensive financial education programs for students, faculty and the community at large in Westchester County. Prior to this, she was founder of Finance in Focus, a training and consulting firm dedicated to increasing knowledge and skills in the fields of personal finance and financial literacy. The goal of the firm’s training approach is to assist individuals to acquire lifelong financial fitness by gaining tools to make informed financial decisions. Ms Matthews’ experience includes over 25 years in financial services, working in corporate and investment banking at HSBC Securities and at Banc of America Securities, where she was a Managing Director. In these firms, she assisted a wide array of clients such as Fortune 500 companies, government entities and nonprofits to implement solutions for their global financing requirements, including capital raising and investments.Ms. Matthews has leveraged her financial knowledge and communication skills into educational programs to help people build wealth and achieve financial security. She has been involved in financial literacy education for over a decade. Serving on the Board of the Financial Women’s Association of New York from 2000-2006, she headed up the Financial Backpack program which conducted training seminars for high school students and young adults. She has designed and coordinated programs for the NYC public high schools, private schools, colleges, and community organizations.
