Responsible for:- Strategy & Artistic Programme,- Governance and Stakeholder Management,- Marketing and Finance.Hailed as one of the most innovative, exciting and inspirational festivals in the country BLF, is the largest literature festival in the North of England and, a key event in the UK’s cultural calendar.Festival scope and attendance has grown from 25 events with 968 attendees in 2014 to 699 events with 155,000 attendees from 24 countries in 2024. BLF is the most culturally diverse festival in the UK and has created a step change for diverse artists and audiences. In the first 10 years, 45% of BLF artists are ethnically diverse with heritage from 72 countries, and 53% of BLF audiences are ethically diverse.BLF believes in social inclusion and has an ethical ticketing policy. In 2024, 89% of our audiences accessed BLF 2024 for free including those in receipt of Universal Credit, legacy benefits, in social housing, refugees, disabled people and their carers, students or asylum seekers. 61% of attendees lived on household incomes of £40,000 or less per year (national average household income is £43,645). 22% have household incomes below £20,000.
