A brief description of my retouching role is to colour correct, edit, deep etch and combine photographs, as well as illustrations, according to the design brief. I check Indesign layouts to ensure that they are print ready and create PDFs that can be sent to the printers. Administrative duties include: Placing half page adverts.Placing barcodes and checking that the correct spine sizes are used on the covers.Keeping track of page number changes via flatplans and google documents.Ensuring that 5th colours, foils and spot varnishes are correctly depicted in Indesign.Liaising with Art directors and Editors regarding deadlines or repro concerns.Creating cover thumbnails.Updating digital magazine links and cover thumbnails on the HSM website.Sending covers for epson colour proofs.Uploading print ready publications to the printers.Liaising with the printers regarding uploads.I am also responsible for training and supervising junior repro staff members.In the absence of the manager and deputy manager I handle any departmental queries or issues.I was also involved in checking digital magazines created on Mag+ used for iPad and Retina devices.
