Being a project's technical lead has allowed me to perform bake offs among various technical solutions and in the area of grid computing, evaluate the pros and cons of a 240 core shared memory system vs a traditional grid computing infrastructure. My linux team currently manages both types of compute systems. As a team lead, I work with our other senior admins to develop the skills of junior admins and decide how work should be broken up to keep everyone learning something new without overloading each person based on his or her own skill levels. I try to have one on one conversations with all members of the linux team on a regular basis to determine where each person may need help or to learn about the latest discovery each person has made that can add to the linux groups abilities. A broad platform environment has allowed me exposure to VMWare, Windows 2k-2k8, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and IRIX as well as Perl, Python, Java and more. Being a contractor for a commercial defense contractor, there is a large emphasis placed on efficiency, business continuity and disaster recovery, and OS hardening and security such as NISPOM chapter 8, DCID 6/3 and industry standard CIS levels 1 and 2. By developing system automation and in-house training of our junior admins I have helped our small group of admins to keep up with business demands without growing the size of our staff.
