At Colorado Parks and Wildlife, I served as an Aquatic Research Technician with a focus on stream restoration and fish habitat. Much of my work centered on Trimble GPS surveys and data analysis in ArcGIS and HECRAS. I also created cartographic products to assist our biologists and researchers in answering management questions related to biology, geomorphology, and hydrology. We traveled all over the state and collaborated with various members of the public and private sectors on a variety of river restoration projects. I also constructed a newly designed RFID-GPS mobile antennae array to better understand how Colorado fishes move through river systems and utilize habitat.

At Colorado Parks and Wildlife, I contributed to on-going Greater-Sage Grouse population monitoring on oil fields in Colorado and Wyoming. The data we collected directly influenced Sage Grouse management and oil extraction practices in Colorado and the western states. I collaborated with co-workers in a team setting and became highly proficient with use of government trucks and ATVs.

I spent the summer conducting Northern Goshawk nest surveys in the Wyoming Range for an on-going Goshawk monitoring effort. Each day I mentored interns on field techniques and protocol. I logged over 300 hours of backcountry hiking and navigation.

Contributed to on-going Greater-Sage Grouse population monitoring across the state of Nevada. I became proficient in VHF radio-telemetry, GPS navigation, and trapping Sage Grouse at night.

Acted as assistant field crew leader and conducted songbird point-count surveys in Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska in efforts to protect avian species and their habitats. Work consisted of long days hiking and camping in back-country regions. I also interacted with private landowners on a regular basis.

After a month on the job, I was asked to work as a full technician conducting my own point-counts in South Dakota.
