I joined DMC as employee number two whilst the VoIP and Asterisk phone system consultancy was growing rapidly.Whilst at DMC, I:• provided first line support to customers and end users by phone and email• improved our workflow and customer experience by implementing a ticket tracking system• improved our ability to react swiftly with issues by setting up a network monitoring system• automated our provisioning process to reduce setup time• helped troubleshoot and and diagnose complex technical and networking issues:Running SIP and VoIP over consumer-grade ADSL lines helped me gain experience troubleshooting complex networking issues - particularly involving low quality broadband routers (CPE) - which lead me to gain a good understanding of low level networking issues (OSI Layer 3 and 4) affected our customer experience and how to mitigate them.

I was contracted part-time by "BBC Backstage” project to administrate the R&D VM cluster known as "“Playground”. The Playground was intended to provide a low-stress, "no-paperwork" place for BBC developers and contractors to put development and protype systems.At its height, it consisted of about 50 guest VMs, running across 6-8 Virtual Machine hosts, running a mix of Centos and Debian on Xen hypervisor.My role mainly consisted of day to day systems administration maintenance of the setup, provisioning new machines, supporting the developers by email and telephone and being there to deal with any technical issues that arose.
