I lead the global legal team for Citi's Issuer Services business globally. Citi's Issuer Services business provides a comprehensive array of fiduciary, agency and banking services to almost any imaginable financing or commercial structure across debt, depositary receipts and M&A. In this role I provide close support to the global management of this business on all legal and fiduciary matters, working closely with my diverse and excellent team based on four continents and in close partnership with colleagues in risk, compliance and legal. We support the business from the development of a new product or service, through its documentation and on through any post-close issues including litigation, default, restructuring and/or amendment. We also support the business on proprietary M&A as well as responding to regulatory and market changes as well as its transition into new business practices (such as the integration of AI into documentation review and transaction management).

I recruited, developed and lead the diverse and talented legal team at Citi responsible for the bank's corporate trust business in EMEA and APAC. The team was split across three continents with lawyers in London, Dubai and Hong Kong.I was responsible for all aspects of the business's activities from product development and jurisdictional growth through transaction documentation. My team also managed the legal aspects of all issuer defaults, restructurings and insolvencies as well as any litigation impacting the business and its transactions. We wedre also centrally involved in executing on any proprietary M&A opportunities. Products handled by the business and on which my team and I advised included loans, bonds (whether straight or structured, Islamic or conventional and almost any governing law) and escrows (whether cash or securities).

I was elected a Harold G Fox Scholar by Middle Temple and therefore had the opportunity to work with a law firm in Toronto for an academic year. I worked in the litigation and corporate practices and was exposed to a wide variety of cases and transactions, playing an active role in legal research, advocacy, preparation, drafting and client engagement.This experience led me to decide to change career goals from being a barrister to becoming a solicitor and whilst working at McCarthy Tétrault I applied for and was offered a training contract at Ashurst.
