Patrick Flanagan is a Senior Software Engineering Manager at Mindbody at Sheerba. Colleagues describe them as "I’ve worked with Patrick for almost two years at UNUM. In his time with the company, Patrick grew from iOS developer to Head of Engineering. Working with him as a product designer, I’ve found Patrick to be a great teammate and leader. I’ve learned so much from him about product development and strategy, optimizing processes, project management, and how to be a good leader. Patrick would be a great asset to any team. He is rational, resourceful, articulate, and has amazing forethought. " and "I worked alongside Patrick as a Software Engineer for almost two years. Patrick possesses all the qualities needed to succeed in any engineering role at any level. Patrick and I started working at UNUM around the same time, and I saw him quickly rise from an individual contributor to a team lead, and eventually to Head of Engineering. To our business leaders, and everyone else, it was immediately clear that Patrick could impact positive change at a company-wide level. As Head of Engineering, Patrick drove countless initiatives to accelerate the rate we ship new features. He accomplished this by overhauling our development pipeline and by offloading key functionality from our mobile app to our servers. These changes, along with many others, enabled the company to respond to market changes quicker than ever before. During his tenure, our iOS application went from a sub-4 star rating to 4.5 stars, and we nearly doubled our user-base. Patrick is not only hard-working and driven, but incredibly strategic and detailed. He’s a fun, interesting person to be around, and would be an instant culture fit anywhere he goes. Any organization would be lucky to have him."

Head Of EngineeringUnum, Inc. Mar 2019 - Feb 2020I participated in many parts of corporate strategy, from helping us decide our strategic focuses to also discovering which initiatives we needed to drop. It was also important to me that we planned effectively both for the short term as well as for the long term in how and what we focused our efforts on. With this plan, I then worked with design to create and document upcoming features. I also took the desired features and created a development roadmap beginning with an MVP version we could release quickly while we built out the other pieces of the functionality afterwards. This allowed us to AB Test and receive actual use-statistics before we invested further time to perfect it. A way I had us build with the future in mind is that I made sure that we built in such a way that features could be leveraged magnitudes beyond the initial set of tooling created by engineering. This way we gained much functionality without further work from engineering so that our engineers could focus on providing further leverageable functionality-sets while we had others add further value in these expandable parts of the app.It was also important to me to improve the engineering department in a variety of ways: improve systems, reduce headaches for the team, improve communication channels, clarify features, and make it easier for them to complete their work -- to name a few. I also always strived to help remote engineers feel as involved and included and valued as those in office. -
Ios EngineerUnum, Inc. Sep 2018 - Mar 2019There were a variety of major features I was involved in when I started. These largely focused on allowing users to be more creative while also managing what they would share in Instagram. There were many things I also had us implement to improve our code quality and prepare for expanding the team. This includes integrating linting, shifting the team towards using stricter architecture paradigms, and introducing or creating other tools and processes to standardize our coding. -
Ios Mobile EngineerIbotta, Inc. Dec 2016 - Aug 2018Denver, CoWas a major contributor in the process transitioning from REST to GraphQL. Also highly involved in deciding a more robust architecture in the app. Was considered a go-to person for design, marketing, platform-engineer and other departments regarding any questions on how the app works or how we might accomplish various objectives. Established a more robust feature-flag system to aid in AB testing functionality. Made many improvements to app's search capabilities beyond simple character matching. Led over 50 technical interviews and aided conducting over 30 more, and began an effort to optimize and improve the effectiveness of the Android and iOS code tests and the interview process for all software engineers. -
