I love software engineering. I hate selling myself. Solving problems creatively and making tools with software is my greatest passion and I have been doing it since I was 13 years old. Whether it is a tool for my home and family life or a big corporate backend solving a client's problems, it tickles my curiosity to dive into the problems behind the need for a solution.Currently, my weapons of choice are:- Linux- C#- JetBrains Rider- GraphQLI devour new knowledge with a passion. It comes easily for me to keep my knowledge up-to-date as it is of genuine interest to me and not only part of the job.One thing I do not appreciate is being forced to do something in a manner that is clearly worse than a known alternative - whether that be system design or coding. This is a big part of why I never finished my engineering degree. I love to reflect and discuss concepts and implementations. I will argue what I think is the best solution any day, but I am always willing to change my mind based on the best argument. I appreciate the academic way of thought and pragmatic ways of implementation.I thrive in relatively small teams (possibly as a part of a larger organization) where everyone truly works together and is completely honest about what they do not know. I do not function well in teams, where each member sees the others as competitors.I see myself as a team player and will...– happily do whatever I can to help/mentor/'rubber duck'– write maintainable code that even my future self will like reading– enjoy getting to know my team at social gatheringsI will not participate in making dark patterns - everyone should strive to do right by their users/customers.I work best when I know the _why_ of what I am working on. I need to know the context and I need to understand how the thing I am building fits into the bigger picture.One of my hobbies is watching endurance racing (e.g. 24 Hours of Le Mans). I love it so much, that I have made a system for timing visualization and analysis. I have used that project to test new frameworks, databases, deployment patterns etc. and it has served me well over the years. At one point, I even built a database for it that would aggregate data based on events – which is what we now know as _event sourcing_.I tend to get very focused - which has at times, made me forget my lunch break. If you see me like that, gently bring me with you to get lunch :)
