Within the SMARAGD project, I work on the development of a crop monitoring and weed detection system. This detection system uses state-of-the-art deep learning technology to localize and classify individual plants and weeds in an arable field (see image below). In practice, the plant detection system can be used to provide detailed information for precision farming (robots).

Test engineer at the WEpods project (wepods.nl). The WEpods project develops an autonomous vehicle for the public road. My job was to assist the engineers during their field tests, solve practical issues and work on the development of a path generation tool for the WEpod navigation system.

As supervisor, my task was to use the experience acquired during participation of the Field Robot Event of 2015 to explaining and teach student students how to build, program and test a field robot. During this course the focus lies in automation in a semi structured environment. To make the robots work in such an environment, robust algorithms need to be designed to manage varying situations.
